12-1-12: Listing Expired, please call for details! Lake Martin waterfront home in Trillium, with a free island!

John Donne thought that no man is an island – that we are all inseparable members of the greater mankind. That may be true, but it sure feels nice to sit on your own private island on Lake Martin, covered in shady trees yet perched out to enjoy the view.

1020 Wake Robin is one of the most recognized homes on Lake Martin. Located in the Trillium neighborhood of Lake Martin which is on the west side of the lake, it’s a landmark known for its white sandy beach, manicured flat lot, distinctive architecture, and big water view. The home curves and hugs the edge of approximately 800 feet of shoreline, plus a private island included in the purchase adds an additional 500 feet to an already large lot.

We were very honored when Lake Magazine featured 1020 Wake Robin in their June 2012 issue. It’s always a high honor to be written up in Lake, but they doubled the compliment when they chose the title of Paradise on the Lake. To read the very complimentary article, and (most importantly) to see Kenneth Boone’s beautiful photos, CLICK HERE.

Trillium is located just west of Kowaliga Bridge in the Little Kowaliga branch of Lake Martin. Located on the west side of the lake near Kowaliga Bridge, Kowaliga Marina, and Sinclairs Restaurant, Trillium is an established high end gated community originally developed by Russell Lands. It’s a popular sightseeing destination for boat riders.

Driving through Trillium’s gated entrance, you take a winding the causeway toward the home.  The approach from the road is equally stunning from the road and the water, as this home has over 6,400 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and seems to float in the middle of the lake. Its contemporary architecture and lavish landscape feel light, spacious, and lush.

Lake Martin is breathtaking at this home because the lot is very flat and the home sits right at the edge of the water. You are not looking down at the lake from above – you are living right beside it. The water is truly an extension of every room, and greets you at every turn.

The foyer sets the mood for the home with cool limestone floors and light, curving walls. To the right is a guest suite, dining room and kitchen, and to the left is master bedroom, bath and stairs to the second floor.

The round living room is the first of many surprises inside. The curves in the walls, windows, and fireplace recall the curves of the patio and the shoreline, and showcase an amazing view of the Kowaliga area of Lake Martin.

To the right of the round room is the dining room where the limestone floors continue and the color palette is and neutral and light.

Directly beyond the dining room is the kitchen and sunroom. This is a huge area with high end finishes and appliances, excellent for entertaining and designed to wow you with as much view as possible. There’s a double oven, desk space, a separate refrigerator and freezer, a gas cooktop, a wet bar with ice maker, a gas burning fireplace multiple doors to the patio outside.

The built in banquet is large and roomy, and the surrounding cabinets and counters offer ample storage and prep space. There’s a half bath for guests and every inch of this room is bathed in natural light.

As you step out of the sunroom onto the patio that runs the length of the home, you are surrounded by a sea of blue water and skies. To the right is the boat dock and the causeway in the distance.

1020 Wake Robin’s dock is extra long and has year round deep water.  You probably realize this rarity – because most of the time on Lake Martin, in order to have a water year round at your dock, you must make a trade off and put up with a super steep lot.  Here the lot is flat, views are long, and water is deep.  As functional as it is beautiful, the dock system has a drive on personal watercraft dock and a floating dock with an ample boat slip, and is tucked in this protected cove to the side of the home.

As you stroll back inside and past the dining room, you enter at the first of two guest wings. These bedrooms are large and bright, and take advantage of the lake and garden views outside. Both bedrooms share a this large bathroom where Limestone floors continue, and the striking round window overlooks a separate tub and shower.  If you like, you can close the door that leads to this wing and your guests are closed off with added privacy.

Leaving this wing, we’ll walk back past the foyer and the round living living room to the master suite. Like all rooms in this home, the master bed and bath use walls of windows and glass doors to connect with the water at every turn.

The master bedroom has access to the patio outside, and connects to a large, multifunctional bath, gym, and closet area. There are double vanities, and curved glass block his and hers shower, an exercise area, and his and hers closet storage that will make your jaw drop. The closet space winds around to include his storage, her storage, walls of cabinet storage, all of which ends in a large laundry room.

Up the stairs on the same side of the home is the second guest wing with 2 large bedrooms and a full bath in between. The first bedroom is large enough for an entire family and has views of the causeway and cove below.

Up a few stairs is the full bath, and down a light filled hallway is a hidden gem we are calling the observation bedroom. There are built in trundle beds and a 360 degree view of Lake Martin, both beaches, and the private island below.

As we head outside to explore the lake, we find there are many ways you can enjoy it from this home.

A stroll down the shoreline shows that in addition to the grassy yard and sandy beach, there is also this wooded peninsula. The property stretches completely around the peninsula, and on the back side is YET ANOTHER sandy beach for swimming and lots of shady spots for relaxing and enjoying the lake breeze.

The water is clear and a shallow sandbar takes you to your private island where you can explore and imagine, or you can sit peacefully amongst the pines and enjoy the big water views.  Use it as an extension of your living space, a treasure for imaginative kids, or as your own Fortress of Solitude.  Whatever you choose, the point is, it’s your choice. Honestly, is there another place on the lake that is inside a deed restricted neighborhood of Trillium’s caliber, has this big a view of open water, two beaches, a one of a kind well designed yet fun home, AND your own island?

1020 Wake Robin is a gem in Trillium and truly one of the most unique waterfront homes on Lake Martin. Explore it for yourself and be rewarded with a welcome surprise at every turn.
