The hiking trails at Smith Mountain Fire Tower are an incredible area around Lake Martin but there are a few rules:

• No overnight camping – hike in and hike out
• No wheeled vehicles – includes ATV’s, 4 Wheelers and mountain bikes
• No littering
• No driving to Smith Mountain at night

The trails are open 7 days a week for you to enjoy with your family. At the top of the trail is the fire tower that you can climb and enjoy panoramic views of Lake Martin. The fire tower was restored and opened to the public in 2012 and is a great addition to things to see while at the Lake!

There are also some awesome educational displays that explain the history of Smith Mountain and to identify the various wildlife and plants in the area.

Just 30 minutes from Auburn and about 15 minutes from Hwy 280, Smith Mountain Fire Tower is an easy spot to visit!
