Vicki and her family had an interesting journey. They knew that they wanted a waterfront home on Lake Martin. But they really didn’t know exactly what kind of home they wanted, until they found something that they didn’t want.
That might seem strange, but that is how it works sometimes in real estate.
For several months, I helped Vicki and her family look for their vacation home. They ran across one they liked. It seemed to meet all of their needs. They made an offer, negotiated with the seller, and got a deal! Part of the sales contract included some contingencies. Vicki was wise to include a home inspection contingency in hers.
The home inspection revealed a few items that we did not anticipate. While Vicki and her family felt they could take care of them, it did make them start to consider the possibility that they would like a newer home. In the end, she decided to exercise the contingency and not go through with that particular purchase.
It all worked out in the end, since she and her family had a chance to have a discussion about how they envision using a home at Lake Martin. The family voted, and a new set of search parameters was given to me.
I am happy to report that Vicki, her human family, and her dog family are all excited about their lake home! Their perseverance and positive attitude made them such a pleasure. And, their experience with their first contract gave me a great lesson for future Lake Martin buyers: everyone should have a candid talk about what type of lake experience they want, and then go for it!
