Lego Block Seawalls Explained

Did you know that seawalls are a super important part of real estate on Lake Martin, Alabama? In this blog, I’m breaking down one of the coolest construction innovations I’ve seen lately — concrete block seawalls or, what I call, Lego block seawalls.

Why are seawalls so important?

Seawalls protect your land from erosion especially on Lake Martin where there is a lot of wave action. One of the most challenging aspects of creating a seawall on the lake is if you have a steeper lot.

You have to worry about the gradient change getting down to the waters. Therefore, you have to think about all of the equipment getting down to the water to create the concrete seawall.

What are concrete block seawalls?

These aren’t your typical seawalls. We’re talking about smart, interlocking pre-cast concrete blocks that are strong, durable, and surprisingly fast to build in any terrain.

Whether you’re building along a lake, river, or coastal area in Alabama, this new method is a total game changer for protecting waterfront property and reducing erosion risk.

What makes this technique so unique?

It’s like you’re playing with Legos! The blocks are made off-site and delivered ready to assemble-kind of like giant Legos. That means less waste, fewer delays, and way less labor compared to traditional poured concrete seawalls.

For buyers and builders in Alabama real estate, especially those dealing with tough terrain or unpredictable weather, this system makes building a solid, beautiful seawall way more practical.

Concrete Block Seawall Companies

SiteMix and LakeScape are pioneering this approach that could seriously level up your next property project. Whether you’re building a dream home or investing in a waterfront lot, having a smart, reliable seawall system is a major win.

To give you an idea of the process, a 960 square foot wall was built on Lake Martin by only 3 people, and I was able to get some information on how it was done by these companies.

Sitemix created the concrete blocks onsite at their plant in Alex City and then got Lakescape to install it for them. Lakescape was able to assemble all of the block together after pouring the footing when the water level was down.

For equipment, they had a Bobcat to bring down two blocks at a time and a Mini X to set them. This technique is a labor saving tool and is also more economical than a poured concrete seawall.

The concrete block seawall is also available with different patterns. On the example above, they used the alpine pattern which worked perfect for the lake vibe.

Pros of a Concrete Block Seawall

Pros include being more economical. The example used above cost $92,000, compared to other types of seawalls at $136,000. It is also more decorative compared to poured concrete walls. It is also a faster process.
