Did you play “army” when you were a kid?

I did.

Here’s how it worked: We would split up into two teams, choose forts, and then run around in the woods with plastic guns and “shoot” each other with imaginary bullets. It was tons of fun. The way you shot someone was by making a really cool machine gun sound effect and then yelling at them to inform them that they were shot.

The one problem I had with it was that hardly anyone appreciated my incredible accuracy, and how far away I could hit any opponent. They also would tell me that I was out of bullets.  I countered that I was shooting a Tommy gun that holds a large amount of rounds. Shows what they know.

So, I am inviting all of my boyhood neighborhood friends to come out and witness my prowess. There’s now a place that anyone can safely shoot a bunch of different machine guns in a fun, controlled environment.
Lake Martin Machine Gun opened in December and now you and your friends can experience firing a machine gun in a safe and private outdoor environment under the supervision of trained professionals.

David and Tim have 15 machine guns from which to choose – the list includes the Austrian Glock 18, Israel’s IMI-UZI, West Germany’s H&K, Soviet Union’s AK-47 to USA’s Browning M2HB and Colt-SMG and others. They have sub-machine guns that are pretty small and then they also have the large ones that take ammo from the large belts and are usually on the top of tanks.
These all sound exciting, but personally I am going straight for the Tommy gun, aka the Thompson M1. I am sure to be the star of the World War II movie that plays in my head.

The base package is $200 for one hour which lets you shoot over 200 rounds. Other packages are available. You can schedule online or give someone a gift card to experience this rare opportunity.
Lake Martin Machine Gun is open Saturdays from 8-3 and Sundays from 12-3 and by appointment Monday-Fridays. Call them at 888-660-6462, visit their website or find them on Facebook for more information.
