Kayaking is a growing sport around the nation. Maybe it’s just because I recently got a kayak, but I seem to notice more and more kayaks around Lake Martin area these days. I really enjoy kayaking down the Tallapoosa River whenever I get a chance.

But recently, I had a chance to kayak on one of the creeks that feeds into Lake Martin. It’s called Sandy Creek. If you look on a map of Lake Martin, Sandy Creek is a pretty huge area of the lake. But, it has its source, you guessed it, in a small creek.

A few weeks ago, my wife and I stayed at a Glamping resort called The Destination Resort. The Destination Resort is located on Sandy Creek where it still looks like a creek. It has rocks in Shoals and overhanging trees, and it’s just beautiful. We had a blast! We put in upstream and did about a 20 minute float. Skip, one of the owners of The Destination Resort, let us know that there is another float that they do that is about 2 1/2 hours long but we did not have that much time. I really regret it, because we had such a good time. I would like to go back and do that longer float.

Anyway, I made a quick video of our float. If you have any questions about where this is, I would suggest that you stay at The Destination Resort, that’s the easiest way to float it.

The Destination Resort is a cool Glamping spot that is located in between downtown Dadeville, Alabama and Lake Martin. They have four different Glamping tents available. They also have a main lodge that you can rent out. It is one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed, and I cannot believe it is located right here in our little town. If you are looking for a place to stay that is near Lake Martin, or near Auburn, or just want to have a quick getaway, I would definitely give them a call – 615.477.9813.
