Lake Martin Alabama has a new landmark! Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail’s new tower has been installed, and I got to be one of the first “civilians” to climb it.
Destined to become one of the most visited lookout places in our area, you will want to visit the tower located on Overlook Road near Martin Dam. You can see for miles! After waiting for this project to be complete for a year, the views did not disappoint.
From the new tower, you can see Chimney and Acapulco Rocks, the Kowaliga Bay area towards the west, and even Stillwaters towards the east. Also, pretty sure I spotted the Smith Mountain Fire tower, too.
The volunteers of CRATA told me that it is not open to the public just yet. But, please put this on your list of activities for the summer of 2025 and beyond.
There are still tons of things to do before it becomes open to the public. They have to make the parking lot, safety rails, displays. So, please donate to the South Tower Project at CRATA.org. This will allow them to finish the job and maintain what is sure to be a huge Lake Martin Alabama landmark.
I also recommend that you become an annual member of CRATA, because they maintain all these trails out here. They do a great job and are a key part of the Lake Martin.
